About
I am an ecologist interested in what determines the current distribution of species. As part of this research, I describe the (evolutionary) adjustments of mammals and birds to our continuously changing planet. My research focuses on population genetics and migration ecology in marine and coastal areas. These habitats are shared with humans. The competition for habitats and resources by wildlife and people is a major challenge along all migration routes, and in most habitats. I hope to contribute to solving this paradox both through my own research, and in my role as chair of the International Wader Study Group.
Keywords to my research: population genetics, phylogeography, numbers and distribution, individual survival and demography.
